TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 24-ranked Arizona football team completed practice at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium on Tuesday evening in preparation for Saturday's game at No. 25 UCLA. Below is a brief transcript of head coach Rich Rodriguez's comments following practice.
On if the staff keeps track of yards after contact for the running backs:
"I've never really done that but I think Coach Magee, who watches it pretty close, may mark that down. All I know is that Ka'Deem Carey and Daniel Jenkins are both really good at making people tackle."
On the play of Austin Hill:
"I think he was banged up half the spring but I think his performance has been better in the games than in practice. He has performed really well - he is a smart guy and a tough guy - he has been really consistent. I didn't realize he had that many yards on Saturday but Austin has a great feel for the game. He is a good route runner but he and Dan (Buckner) have a really good understanding of coverages and where the holes are."
On the team playing hard:
"We are playing pretty hard but that's to be expected. I hope you wouldn't have to beg guys to play hard - I think there is another level we can get to. When we get to the point where we are playing more guys and not just playing 14 or 15 on defense - when we're playing actually 22 or 24 on both sides then I think they'll play even harder. I think they're playing pretty hard for the most part but we grade effort and physicalness more than anything and I think there is still another level we can get to."
On who UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley might be similar to:
"I remember him coming out of high school and that's what you want them to look like. He looks like one of those tight ends we are playing against all the time - big, strong, physical athlete. I don't know if I've ever had a quarterback that big."
The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 3 when travel to No. 25 UCLA for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at The Rose Bowl. The contest will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
