Final Round Results
TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona men’s golf team finished competing in the Lone Star Invitational today at the Hill Country Resort Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
The Wildcats had their strongest round as a team today, shooting a third round score of 289 (+1), giving them a final score of 886 (+22) for the tournament. “I was pleased with the way the final round went,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “This was our best round we played this tournament and it could have been the best round we played all year.” Arizona earned a fifth place team finish, 20 shots behind Houston, who won the tournament with a score of 866 (+2).
Erik Oja and Trent Redfern led the Wildcats in the third round by shooting a pair of 71s on the round.
Oja finished in a tie for ninth place for the tournament with a final score of 217 (+1), despite having health issues. “Erik played huge,” said Anderson. “He wasn’t feeling well all day and I couldn’t be more proud of how he played today.” Oja finished five shots behind Rodolfo Cazaubon of North Texas who earned a first place finish by firing a score of 212 (-4). This was Oja’s second top-10 finish on the year.
Senior Trent Redfern posted a final score of 221 (+5), earning a tie for 19th place for the tournament. This is the second time this year Redfern finished in the top-20.
Dylan Healey finished the tournament by scoring a third round score of 74 (+2), good for a final score of 221 (+5), also finishing in a tie for 19th place.
Sophomore Brenden Redfern
fired a third round score of 73 (+1), which was his lowest round of the tournament. Redfern finished with a score of 231 (+15).
Alex McMahon ended the tournament by carding a third round score of 75 (+3), giving him a final score of 233 (+17).
Competing as an individual, Tucker Wadkins shot a final round score of 78 (+6). Wadkins finished the tournament with a score of 231 (+15).
The next time the Wildcats will compete will be in the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz. on Jan. 28, 2012.
