TUCSON, Ariz. - Former University of Arizona standout and current PGA professional Jim Furyk will represent the United States in the 2012 Ryder Cup matches, U.S. captain Davis Love III announced Tuesday.

It marks the eighth consecutive Ryder Cup appearance for Furyk, who has represented the U.S. in every Ryder Cup meeting since 1997, helping the U.S. to victories in 1999 and 2008. He has an 8-15-4 overall record in Ryder Cup competition, including a 4-2-1 record in singles play.

Furyk, a member of the Arizona men's golf team from 1988-92, has been a member of the PGA Tour since 1993. In that span, he has won 16 PGA Tour events, and claimed five top-10 finishes and more than $2.8 million in earnings in 2012.

While at Arizona, Furyk was a member of Arizona's 1992 national championship team. He was a two-time All-American and a three-time all-Pac-10 selection. His 176 career rounds played ranks fourth in Arizona history. A Mary J. Roby Academic Award winner in 1989 and 1991, Furyk was inducted into the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.

The 39th Ryder Cup matches will take place Sept. 25-30 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill. The U.S. leads the all-time Ryder Cup standings, 25-11-2.
