TUCSON, Ariz. The University of Arizona men’s golf team returns to action Monday at the second annual Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge in Glenview, Ill.
The 54-hole event will be played, Oct. 3-4, at The Glen Club, a par-72, 7,149-yard layout. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday with 18 to follow on Tuesday. The filed includes seven schools from each conference: Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington from the Pac-10 and Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Purdue from the Big Ten.
In addition to individual medalist and team champion honors, this event also features a conference challenge in which each league counted its low six scores of each round to determine the winner. Arizona State’s Alejandro Canizares claimed individual medalist honors in the inaugural event with a two-round total of 142 (-2). Minnesota won the team championship in a scorecard playoff with a 20-over 596, while the Pac-10 claimed the conference challenge.
Three of the five Wildcats scheduled to compete this year (Liaw, Tyler, Esway) also competed in last year’s event, which was held at Bandon Dunes Golf Club in Bandon, Ore. Liaw, who tied for seventh place with a two-over 146, was the leading Wildcat individual.
