TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's golf coach Jim Anderson announced Wednesday that Bertrand Mommaerts has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to attend the school and play golf. He will report to the school in the fall of 2013.

"We're very excited to sign Bertrand," said Anderson. "He was a national champion in Belgium and has competed on some great teams in international competition. That experience certainly will help him adjust to the college game more quickly than others. He should be a great fit for us."

Mommaerts, a native of Lasne, Belgium, who graduated from College Chris Roi in 2012, posted three top-25 finishes in six European golf events this summer, including a ninth-place finish at the Total International Belgian Juniors, where he carded a four-round total of 300 (+12), and a tie for 13th place at the 2012 Duke of York, where he posted a five-over 233 total.

A standout junior golfer, Mommaerts is a five-time Belgian national junior champion, claiming age group titles in 2006, '08, '10, '11 and '12. He was also a part of the 2010 European Boys' Team champion and was Belgium's national match play champion in 2012.

"The golf team at Arizona is a great one," said Mommaerts, "and I'm most excited about being a part of a group of great golfers who will push me to a higher level."
