Geoff Hanson enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Wildcats. He'll work primarily with Arizona's distance freestyle and medley swimmers while also handling recruiting for the men's team.

Hanson, who swam at Arizona under Frank Busch from 1993-1996, previously coached for 12 seasons at the University of Wisconsin alongside Eric Hansen in the assistant head coach capacity. Together they were instrumental in leading the Badgers to its highest finish at the NCAA Championships along with mentoring the program's first-ever individual national champion in 2011.

An All-American swimmer in the 1650 freestyle, Hanson was known for his determination and dedication during his career. Earning Pac-10 finalist honors in each of his four seasons, the Tempe, Ariz. native was named to the conference's All-Academic team and was a four-time Mary Roby Academic Achievement award winner.

After his days in the water, he served as a volunteer assistant coach for Busch for two seasons, working with UA's mid-to-distance freestyle group.

During that time he also was the assistant senior coach, head developmental coach and masters assistant coach with the club team Hillenbrand Aquatics (now known as Tucson Ford Aquatics). Hanson also has worked numerous camps and clinics during his coaching career.

A graduate of Arizona in 1998, Hanson earned a bachelor's degree in history and a minor in sociology.

Hanson and his wife, Kellee, reside in Tucson.
