TUCSON, Ariz. -
Arizona’s No. 1/5 Swimming and Diving teams will travel to No. 6/2 California and No. 3/6 Stanford on Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21, in their first pair of dual road meets this season. Friday’s meet versus the Bears is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. PT at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Berkeley, Calif. and Saturday’s meet versus the Cardinal will start at 11 a.m. PT at Avery Aquatic Center in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Wildcats are coming off of a multi-dual meet in which the men’s team defeated No. 15 Iowa and the women’s team conquered Iowa, Oregon State, Northern Arizona and New Mexico State.
On the women’s side, Arizona is led by senior Alyssa Anderson (Granite Bay, Calif.), who currently holds the third-fastest time in the country in the 200 free and 200 fly and the fourth-fastest time in the 500 free.
Sophomore Sarah Denninghoff (Tucson, Ariz.) has also proven herself this season, with the fourth-fastest times in the country in the 100 back and the 200 back.
The Wildcat womens’ most impressive races are all four of their relay teams. Arizona holds the fastest times in the country in the 400 free and medley relays and the second-fastest times in the 200 free and medley relays.
On the men’s side, Arizona is led by senior Cory Chitwood (Union, Ky.), who currently has the fastest times in the country in the 200 back and 200 IM, the second-fastest time in the country in the 100 back and the sixth-fastest time in the 200 free.
In addition, four other Wildcats have the fastest times in the country in their respective events. Sophomore Mitchell Friedemann (Allenton, Wis.) has the fastest time in the 100 back, freshman Kevin Cordes (Naperville, Ill.) in the 100 breast, junior Carl Mickelson (Chandler, Ariz.) in the 200 breast and senior Austen Thompson (Chandler, Ariz.) in the 400 IM.

Arizona’s men’s relay teams currently own the fastest times in the country in the 200 medley and 400 medley relays, second-fastest in the 200 free relay and third-fastest in the 400 free relay.
California, the defending NCAA National Champion for both men and women, boasts six women with 12 of the top-10 times in the country. The Bears are led by Tucson, Ariz. native Caitlin Leverenz, who has a top-10 time in five events. Liv Jensen and Sara Isakovic have two times in the top-10 and Catherine Breed, Shelley Harper and Cindy Tran all have one each.
For the men, the Bears have six athletes with 13 of the top-10 times in the country. Cal is led by junior Tom Shields, who holds the fastest time in the country in the 100 fly and 200 fly and three top-10 times in three additional events.
The Stanford women boast eight swimmers with 12 of the top-10 times in the country, led by senior Sam Woodward in the 50 free and the 100 fly. The Cardinal also have three relay teams ranked in the top 10, including the fastest time in the country in the 200 free relay.
The Stanford men’s team is led by freshman David Nolan, who has times in the top-10 in the country in four events. The Cardinal finished second at the Texas Invite in December, where Arizona finished fourth and California finished sixth.
