Arizona Women Close Out 2012 Olympic Trials

July 2, 2012

OMAHA, Neb. -

Christine Magnuson

Four Arizona swimmers competed in the 50 free finals on Monday night to close out the 2012 Olympic trials in Omaha, Neb.

Christine Magnuson finished third in a time of 24.78—just .28 seconds off first-place finisher Jessica Hardy.

Kait Flederbach earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 25.13, Margo Geer finished seventh at 25.26 and former UA swimmer Lara Jackson finished eighth at 25.42.

“I’m really proud of how our team competed and presented itself on this stage,” Arizona head coach Eric Hansen said. “Matt Grevers, Alyssa Anderson and Clark Burckle led the way with Olympic berths, but the depth that our crew showed through the semis and the finals is something that I’m very proud of.”

Of the 56 swimmers that competed for Ford/Zona, there were 18 appearances in final rounds and 28 in semifinals. Matt Grevers, Clark Burckle and Alyssa Anderson will compete in the 2012 Olympic Games, which begin July 27.

“This is a great meet and something we can build on,” Hansen said. “I look forward to the future, but I’m honored to have worked with the people that came to this meet and represented the University of Arizona and Tucson Ford Aquatics.”
