TUCSON, Ariz. – Coming off a season opening victory against Hawai’i, the Arizona men’s swimming and diving team looks to continue its success as it heads to Las Vegas to compete against UNLV and Denver. The Saturday meet will start at 2 p.m. in the Buchanan Natatorium.
Kevin Cordes has led the way for the men’s team this year and currently has two top-ten times in the nation. His 55.37 in the 100 breast ranks sixth in the country and first in the Pac-12. He also placed in the 200 breast, posting the 10th fastest time in the country and fifth in the Pac-12 with 2:02.63.
Another swimmer on the top-ten times list is junior Mitchell Friedemann. He swam a 48.92 in the 100 back, giving him the fifth fastest time in the country, and second in the Pac-12.
This meet will be a rematch for Arizona and UNLV, as Arizona defeated the Rebels last year 208.5-84.5 in their dual at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
This Saturday will be the first meet of the year for UNLV. They return their top swimmers in 13 out of 14 individual events from last year, including two time Honorable Mention All-American Cody Roberts.
Denver finished second in its season opener two weeks ago, falling to Wyoming but besting Air Force. Kyle Milberg set an El Pomar Natatorium record in the 100 backstroke, swimming to a time of 49.40. His time currently ranks tenth fastest in the country.
