Arizona Men?s Tennis Completes Busy Day at 116th Pacific Coast Doubles

La Jolla, Calif. The Arizona men’s tennis concluded busy play today, Saturday, Mar. 5, in La Jolla, Calif., at the 116th Pacific Coast Doubles tournament. After a shortened day yesterday, Arizona competed in eight matches today, as they took five of those matches, completing play at the tournament.
Competing in their first matches of the tournament, due to yesterday’s rain, the Wildcat’s No. 1 pairing of senior Colin O'Grady and junior Roger Matalonga had the busiest day of them all competing in four matches today. After receiving a first round bye, in the Round of 64, O’Grady and Matalonga defeated Scott Kintz, of California, and Scott Lippitt, a open competitor, 6-1, 6-1. Continuing in the Round of 32, O’Grady and Matalonga defeated Travis Curran and Erik Peterson, from the University of Toledo, 8-4. Later in the afternoon, the duo advanced to the Quarterfinals defeating Konstantin Haerle and Flip Zivojinovic, of RiceUniversity, 8-3. Ending their day, O’Grady and Matalonga fell, in their toughiest match of the day, to Ben Harkwett and Robert Searle, of RiceUniversity, 8-5.
Finishing up action in the Round of 64, junior Daniel Andrus and freshman Bruno Alcala completed play falling to Johan Berg and Dejan Cuetkovic, of USC, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5).
In the consolation bracket, junior Tim Mullane and freshman Claudio Christen had a long day themselves competing in three matches. Beginning the day, Mullane and Christen easily defeated Hans Sapra and Uri Seiser, two open applicants of the tournament, 8-0. In a slightly more difficult match for the pair, Mullane and Christen defeated Matt Rubenstien and Kaui Sud, two other open applicants, 9-7. Finishing out the day, the duo fell to Brent Molden and Bryan Swatt, of the University of California San Diego.
The Wildcats will return home next Tuesday, March 8. Arizona host the University of Memphis prior to a tough weekend. Friday, March 11, the Wildcats will take on No. 17 USC, at Saturday, March 12, the Wildcats conclude the weekend against No. 4 UCLA with first serve scheduled for
