Arizona
2006:  Burst on to the national radar during the Wildcats’ 2005 cross country season, as he had one individual win and four runner-up finishes in the seven races in which he competed.  Claimed the individual title at the USF Invitational.  Earned All-Pac-10 first team and All-Western Region honors after placing second in both of these races.  Competed outdoors for the Wildcats, placing second at the Pac-10 Championships in the 5,000 meters (13:51.32).  He also finished second at the West Region Championships, trailing only teammate Robert Cheseret in both races.  Mutanya went on to earn All-American honors in the 5,000 meters, placing fourth at the NCAA Championships. 
2005:  Competed for the Arizona track team during the 2005 indoor season after transferring from Central Arizona College.  Had season’s best time of 13:39.77 in the 5,000m.  Mutanya did not complete the outdoor season due to injury.   

Central Arizona College
2003-04: Had an impressive career at Central Arizona in cross country that was capped with a first place finish at the Junior College National Championships in 2004.  Also won a national title in track while at Central Arizona College.  Was selected as an NJCAA All-American, and was also chosen as a NJCAA Academic All-American.  In both 2003 and 2004 was chosen as an All-Region athlete by the NJCAA. 

High School
Chikola, Chingola, Zambia: Earned letters in both the 800-meters and 1,500 meters in 1998. Named team captain for one year in high school. Earned the Most Valuable Athlete award. Earned all-city honors during his senior season.
