TUCSON, Ariz. -

Arizona women’s basketball has signed two players in 6’1 junior college transfer Alli Gloyd and 6’0 Xavier transfer Lynette Holmes, head coach Niya Butts announced this week.

“We are excited about the additions of Alli and Lynette,” Butts said. “They are outstanding young women on and off the floor. Both will provide versatility and athleticism at the forward position, which is something we lacked last season.”

Gloyd, a Phoenix, Ariz. native, will be eligible to play for the Wildcats in 2012 after attending Mesa Community College for two years.

She was named Arizona Junior College Player of the Year, was a First-Team All-American, First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-ACCAC selection. She averaged 15 points, 8.8 rebounds and one block per game with a 47.5 shooting percentage.

“Alli has the potential and ability to impact our program immediately,” Butts said. “She’s capable of playing multiple positions and has a knack for rebounding the basketball. Her length and athleticism will allow us to do an array of things on both ends of the floor.”

Holmes, a Chicago, Ill. native, will be eligible to play for the Wildcats in the 2013-14 season. The 6-0 guard played two years at Xavier University, averaging 33.8 minutes, 12.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

“Lynette embodies the toughness and competitive spirit we look for in a student athlete,” Butts said. “She provides size at her position and possesses the ability to create her own shot. Sitting out this season will provide Lynette the opportunity to learn our system, as well as developing into the player we envision her to be.”
