The 49ers return eight letterwinners from a 2011-12 squad that went 14-18 and advanced to the Big West Conference tournament championship game.
Fourth-year head coach Jody Wynn leads LBSU, while sophomore Alex Sanchez leads the team in scoring at 14.3 ppg and rebounding with 6.7 rpg. Sophomore Devin Hudson (6.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg) was a 2012 Big West All-Tournament team pick.
Arizona is coming off a 71-66 victory over North Texas in Denton, Texas. Five players scored in double figures and junior Erica Barnes (Sacramento, Calif.) led the charge with 15 points and eight rebounds.
So far this season, All-Pac 12 pick Davellyn Whyte (Phoenix, Ariz.) is leading the team with 15.6 ppg and 4.9 apg. Juniors Alli Gloyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Kama Griffitts (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) are also averaging double figures at 11.1 and 10.7, respectively.
The Wildcats and the 49ers have met 20 times in a history dating back to 1977. LBSU holds a 14-6 advantage in the series, but UA has won the last six matchups. The teams met in McKale Center last season and Arizona won, 66-42 behind Barnes’ 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The game can be heard live on KTUC AM 1400. The broadcasts will start 15 minutes prior to tip-off for the pregame show, with Derrick Palmer (play-by-play) and Lisa Salgado (color) calling the action.
