The 2003-04 Cheerleading and Mascot season will begin with new enthusiasm at University of Arizona athletic events. The recent hiring of 5-time national champion cheerleader, Christine Hansen, as the Wildcats Cheerleading and Mascot Coach will bring a fresh look and create some exciting enthusiasm for the cheerleaders, mascots and fans.

"I'm very excited to accept this position. Arizona has such a rich athletic tradition and has very enthusiastic fans. While I understand Arizona does not compete nationally in cheerleading, I like the idea that the cheerleaders and mascots are here to make the game atmosphere even more fun. I've have a lot of cheerleading and mascot experience and I know this will be a lot of fun," said Hansen.

Hansen is a native of New Jersey and graduated from the University of Louisville with a B.A. in Communications. While there, she was a 3-time Collegiate National Champion as well as a 3-time NCA Collegiate All-American. In total, she is a 6-time NCA All-American and a 5-time NCA National Champion.

Hansen completed her freshman year of college at Florida State University where she was a member of the coed competition cheerleading squad. She is a former NCA Staffer and earned the "Top Rookie Staffer" award after her first year working for NCA. On the side, she has organized clinics and created choreography for numerous squads in a variety of states.

She is also a former editorial intern at American Cheerleader Magazine and currently freelances for the magazine. Hansen plans to attend graduate school at the University of Arizona.
