Hey GymCat Fans!
Last week we had our first official intrasquad! We competed on three events: floor, bars and beam. It was so exciting to see so many new routines on all of the events! We had 10 people saluting on beam and floor, which is incredible considering it was only the first full week of November. We also competed 7 bar routines, and almost every bar routine had new skills and upgrades.
The team started off on floor. While there were a couple mishaps, it was great to see that so many people have the potential to compete in the floor lineup! Along with a ton of new tumbling skills, people got to show off their new choreography in front of a judge for the first time. Sophomore Kristin Klarenbach had one of the most exciting routines with some truly incredible choreography. All of the new routines look amazing and the floor team is sure to be a strong point in the upcoming season!
The next event was bars. I thought that the team really showed a lot of heart and determination. Even when things were a bit off, people managed to cover their mistakes and finish their routines strong. One of the highlights was having freshman Lexi Mills compete in the bar lineup for the first time showing off a new routine with an awesome new dismount.
The final event was beam. I think that of all the events, beam may be the most difficult to make a lineup. We had 10 solid routines, with only a few mistakes. Even the freshmen went out and competed like upperclassmen. Freshman Shelby Edwards has one of the most difficult routines I've seen in all four years of college, and it is so exciting to watch her go up and hit her set. Even though it is only November, you can tell that the beam team is ready to get out there and start competing!
After this intrasquad, we are looking forward to making corrections and changes so that we are ready to go for the next two intrasquads coming up in a few weeks. I'm sure that we will look awesome in those, and we will be ready to compete come January! Stay tuned for another blog about the first GymCat retreat! Look forward to seeing you all during season!
BEARDOWN,
Molly
