Arizona hosts it second and final regular season tournament this weekend when it welcomes Portland State, UC Riverside and Boston University for the three-day, 10-game event. The Wildcats compete at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. MST on Friday and Saturday and complete the tournament at 11:00 a.m. MST on Sunday.
The Wildcat Invitational is in its 18th year of competition, non-consecutive. Arizona hosted the Wildcat Invitational in 1988 and every year from 1996-2011. The Cats have an 84-3 record all-time in the event. Its last loss at the tournament came March 8, 2008 in a 2-1 decision to Creighton.
UA is coming off of a 2-3 performance at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. to drop the Cats to 10-5 on the season. Arizona was shutout thrice during the weekend, twice against ranked opponents. Arizona fell to No. 2 Oklahoma 5-0, Ohio State 6-0 and No. 11 LSU 3-0. Arizona earned a come-from-behind victory against Long Beach State 4-3 after being down to its final out five times in the seventh inning, trailing by two runs. Chelsea Goodacre brought home the game's tying and go-ahead runs with a double which would eventually give the Cats a win. Goodacre hit two home runs in Arizona's 5-3 win against Loyola Marymount.
