UA Hosts Yavapai, Eastern to Open Fall Slate

TUCSON - University of Arizona Wildcat Softball kicks off its 2012 fall campaign with a visit from Yavapai and Eastern Arizona. The Cats' doubleheader will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7 at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Arizona, Eastern Arizona and Yavapai will compete in a round-robin style, three-game event with Yavapai taking on Eastern Arizona at 1:00 on before Arizona competes with Yavapai and Eastern at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., respectively. Times may be effected by the length of the previous games.

Sunday is the start of Arizona's nine-game fall schedule. Admission to Sunday's contests, as well as all games during the fall, is free and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eight Wildcats will be donning the Arizona uniform for the first time, including Yavapai transfer Estela Piñon who will be playing against former teammates. Piñon joins Assistant Coach Stacey Iveson as Cats with recent roots to the Roughriders; Iveson led Yavapai to two national titles during her four seasons as the Roughriders' head coach.
