SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
Arizona juniors Lacey Smyth (Oceanside, Calif.) and Kim Stubbe (Mol, Belgium) won their doubles flight to wrap up the third and final day of the SDSU Fall Classic on Sunday in San Diego, Calif.
Smyth and Stubbe defeated Utah’s Najera-Salas and Smith, 8-6, to win their bracket’s championship.
Smyth also defeated Washington’s Douglas-Miron, 7-6, 6-3, to win her bracket’s singles championship.
Stubbe and freshman Inge Hendrikx (Zundert, The Netherlands) also earned singles wins in their respective consolation rounds.
“Overall, a strong finish to the tournament and a solid way to wrap up the fall season,” Arizona Assistant Coach Nick Dargene said. “(I was) very impressed with the competitive play from Smyth, who won both her singles and doubles flights. A strong finish of the fall makes the outlook on the spring very promising.”
The Wildcats will open their spring season on Friday, Jan. 18 versus Northern Arizona at Robson Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
