TUCSON, Ariz. -
Hey Wildcat Fans!
As most of you guys know or have seen, we had an AWESOME weekend with great wins! On Thursday night or better said Valentine’s night, we were lucky to have celebrated this event with our lovely teammates and coaches with a nice dinner. Everyone had a good amount of pasta for dinner so we all were ready to take on the Bulldogs of Fresno State on Friday.
Friday was game day. At noon, the Cats walked on the tennis courts for a nice warm-up with the music pumping. Once we warmed up, we all changed in blue and white outfits and were ready to dominate.
Again, No. 3 dubs did a great job in finishing first with a solid score. So the Cats needed one more win for the doubles point. Nos. 1 and 2 both started a little slow in doubles, but Inge and I did a good job with staying in it, which helped Lacey and Shayne as well. They came back very strong and they put the doubles point on the board, thanks to their great win and fight at position 1.
So the Cats won the doubles point. We noticed from the doubles that the Bulldogs were fighters, so we knew we had to stay composed and play exactly the same as we did in doubles.
Shayne Austin was the first one to finish, she had a solid win at position 5. Lacey Smyth finished a little after Shayne and as always she took great care of business. Kiki clinched the match with her win on 4. I also had a good match and won on position 2.
Laura and Susan fought really hard in their super tie breaks. They lost, but I mean if you were there to see Susan’s great save on match point… she played a drop shot, came in and took a volley while falling on the ground! A shot to never forget from our junior Susan Mc Rann!
The end result was 5-2 for the Cats, who defeated a solid Fresno state team, led by our former Assistant Coach
Ryan Stotland!
We took this great win into our next match against Santa Clara. We played them Saturday at 10 a.m.
For the first time, Inge and I won very quickly in our doubles and put the first win on the board. No. 3, Susan and Kiki followed immediately after us, having the doubles point in the pocket of your Wildcats!
Again, it makes such a big difference to lead, 1-0. We definitely took that lead into our singles because we all played very effective tennis and we beat a good Santa Clara team, 6-1!
This weekend was an unforgettable weekend for the Cats because we came back very, very strong after our loss in San Diego. Everyone knew exactly what they had to work on this weekend and we all improved so much in just one week!
This shows what a great group of girls we are as Wildcats, we have so much more to give and win! We fought and were able to Bear Down in every single match and that’s what it means to wear the A and be a Wildcat!
Also, I want to say a special thanks to all the parents, family, friends and fans that came out and supported us this weekend! It means a lot when we see you walking in and supporting us during our battles! Also, a special thanks to my great brother who came over and visited me for 10 days here in Tucson! Always nice to have someone special coming over to be there for me!
The Cats will be ready to go on our third road trip, another one to Texas. I will keep everyone updated on how the trip goes and as always, we are ready for some Wildcat domination!
Bear Down Cats!
