TUCSON, Ariz. -

Hey Wildcat Fans!

The Cats got back from a tough weekend in Texas. Thursday morning, we took off for Texas. Once we arrived there, we had a 25-minute drive to the tennis courts at TCU. We practiced inside, since they predicted the next day to be cold.

After a nice dinner, we got back to our hotel and got to bed early since we needed to be ready for our match against No. 28 TCU.

On Friday, we had our match at 1 p.m. at the indoor courts at TCU. We started off pretty flat in the doubles and we were never able to find our momentum, which resulted in three losses for our doubles.

TCU led by 1-0. Shayne was the first one to finish, she won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Lace followed a little bit after and notched another good win! Kiki and I fought hard, but lost. Laura won in the third set and it came down to Inge. She played well and fought hard, but unfortunately the Cats lost 4-3 to a solid TCU team.

The next day, we drove to the courts of North Texas where we played against the “Mean Green” North Texas team.

Again, as the match before, we did not have a good start in doubles. We started too relaxed and just were flat. Susy and Kiki won their match at No. 3, but No. 1 and No. 2 lost which resulted in a 1-0 score down.

This doubles loss really affected us, because we started really slow in our singles, but Lace was the first one to have another win on her singles record! She played really well and won, 6-1, 6-2.  Kiki also notched a solid win, but Shayne and Laura lost so it came down to Susan and me. I fought back from a 4-1 down in the third set and won 7-5. Susan played well and fought really hard, but lost in the third set, 7-5.

It was just a tough weekend, because we lost twice with a score of 4-3.  It is hard on this level to deal with such close losses against those teams. We really need to step it up in doubles to get that doubles point on the board. It is only one point, but it makes such a big difference as you can tell.

We all need to keep working, practice hard and just learn from our previous weekend and matches. We need to be able to make the jump from a 4-3 loss to a 4-3 win or even a better win! We are a great group of girls, we need to keep up our great work and need to be able to make our away matches our home matches!

The Cats learned a lot again on this trip and we will show y’all our improvements this Saturday when we have our doubleheader! I hope to see all my great fans at our home courts this Saturday! Bear Down Cats!
