LEWISTON, Ida. - Paced by three singles victories and the doubles point,
Washington State defeated Arizona, 4-3, Saturday for its first win over the
Wildcats in eight meetings. The match was moved from WSU to the indoor
facility on the campus of Lewis and Clark State College due to in climate
weather.
The Cougars took control of the match early winning two of the three
doubles contests. WSU's duo of Ana Moura and Stacy McKenna upset the
38th-ranked team of senior Michelle Gough and junior Sophie Regnier, 8-6,
at the No. 1 spot. The Cats' lone doubles triumph came at the No. 3
position where Wildcat senior Joanna Buczkowska and freshman Perrine Pernin
upended Lorena Arias and Moniek van de Ven, 8-4, earning their first win of
the season.
On the singles side, Arizona recorded victories at the No. 3 thru No. 5
positions. Regnier notched her fourth consecutive win defeating Washington
State's Zorana Roganovic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. No. 89 Gough outlasted
Moura, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. Pernin downed 19-match winner Tamara Filipovic, 3-6,
6-2, 7-6.
The Wildcats open up their final home stand of the season when they play
host to No. 11 Texas on Wednesday, April 11, at noon PDT.
