TUCSON, Ariz. -
Head coach Vicky Maes announced the hiring of Nick Dargene as an assistant coach to the women’s tennis staff on Tuesday.
Dargene comes to Arizona from Air Force, where he served as an assistant coach for four years.
"We are extremely excited to announce the hiring of Nick Dargene,” Maes said. “He is an excellent addition to our staff. I have known Nick for several years and have gotten to know him even better during the hiring process. He is a person of great integrity, a well-experienced coach, and overall just a great guy to be around.”
At Air Force, Dargene led the women’s tennis team to three-consecutive 15-win seasons after recording just six victories in the season prior to his arrival. In 2011, he was named the Mountain Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Before joining the Falcon coaching staff, Dargene spend two seasons as an assistant coach with the University of Wyoming women’s tennis team.
Prior to working at Wyoming, he spent three years as a volunteer assistant tennis coach and administrative intern at his alma mater, the University of Iowa.
He began his collegiate career as a student-athlete at Monmouth University, compiling winning records at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions and the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots.
Dargene joins a Wildcat team that posted a 31-16 record and advanced to the NCAA Team Championships in the last two years.
“When he visited the Arizona campus, he clicked immediately with the team and they, too, are thrilled to start working with him,” Maes said. “We all feel this is a great fit and we are looking forward to the new era of women’s tennis.”
