TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 18 Arizona Volleyball team dealt Arizona State its sixth straight loss Friday night as the Cats topped the Sun Devils, 3-1. Set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-14.

The Cats dominated the stat sheet as they tallied a hitting percentage of .333 and recorded 15 more kills than the rival Devils.

"I was pleased with tonight's effort, but felt we could have been a little sharper, said head coach Dave Rubio. "Whitney and Courtney both played great tonight as its always nice to grab a conference win on the road."

Courtney Karst and Whitney Dosty led the Wildcat offense with 34 total kills. Dosty's 19 slays were good for a season-high while Karst had a career-high 15 kills on .323 hitting. Paige Weber distributed the ball nicely as she posted 47 assists.

Both UA and ASU started the match off a bit tentative as each accounted for three errors early in set one.  Once the teams settled in however, Arizona opened up a 14-9 lead on the heels of a Karst kill and an ace from Weber.  Following an ASU timeout, the Sun Devils stemmed the tide and cut the lead to 15-13 Arizona.  The Sun Devils took their first lead at 20-19 after a block by Paige Mittelstaedt but Dosty came back and tied things up at 20 all. The Cats would go onto take the set after using a 5-2 run to close things out.

In the second set, Arizona went up 10-7 after Tiffany Owens muscled home a kill over ASU's Sarah Reaves. UA would open things up after several punishing kills from Dosty. The scoring run would eventually mount to 12-4 in favor of Arizona before the Devils signaled timeout. After a rally attempt from ASU, the Cats squashed any hope of a comeback and won set two, 25-18.

Over set three, the rivals traded jabs early on. Play was knotted 10-10 when ASU received a generous call from the back line judge on an attack from Dosty to give the Devils a one point advantage. The Sun Devils would gain an 22-18 edge as Rubio took a timeout following an error by Resch.  UA recovered however and cut the lead to two, 23-21. ASU then won the next two points on a kill from Reaves and an Arizona attack error to take the set.

In set four, Arizona opened a 11-7 lead after it gained three straight points from an ASU serving error, an ace from by Elise Hendrickson and a kill by Owens.  Ripping off some off their best passing of the season, the lead grew to 15-9 on successive kills from Owens and Dosty. The Cats would take set four by the score of 25-14.

The Cats put a screeching halt to two streaks with the win tonight, ending a three-match losing streak in Tempe in addition to recording its first conference road victory since the team beat Washington State on Oct. 4, 2007 in Pullman.

Resch notched her 1,000 career dig as a Wildcat early in the match as she finished with 12 digs to move her total up to 1,011.

Arizona improved 15-3, 4-3, while Arizona State dropped to 11-8, 1-6.

Next weekend Arizona will travel to the Bay Area where it will meet No. 14 California and No. 5 Stanford on Oct. 23 and 25, respectively.
