TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 18 Arizona Volleyball team, knowing it needed to win in order to keep pace in the treacherous Pac-10 Conference, knocked off No. 21 Washington State tonight at McKale Center, 3-1.

Tiffany Owens and Whitney Dosty both notched 15 kills on the night as Owens also provided the Cats with 11 digs to record her third straight double-double and 11th overall on the season.

Post Match Comments

"Anytime you win, it's easier, said head coach Dave Rubio. "I'm proud of the team. Washington State is a very tough team. We played cleaner, our serving was good and we reduced our errors to get the win."

The Wildcats jumped out early, claiming set one 25-18. Setter Paige Weber filled up the stat line early in game one as she went for two aces, one kill and one block in addition to 11 assists. After play was tied at 8 in the first, Arizona ripped off three straight points and never trailed thereafter.

The Cougars came back though in the second set. Following the score being evened at 15, WSU went on a 7-2 run to eventually win the set, 25-20.  Renee Bordelon led the Cougs with 14 assists while Dosty had five kills for Arizona in the set.

Like Friday night, the match turned during the third set, however this time in Arizona's favor. The Cats won set three, 25-11--its largest margin of victory in a set this year--and took all the momentum of the match.

Set four was contested closer than game three, but Arizona would eventually power through, claiming the set, 25-21 and the match outright. Stephanie Snow came off the bench to provide a lift with three kills and a block while Owens closed out the match with a kill, her fifth of the set.

Seniors, Jacy Norton and Alanna Resch, both had solid evenings for Arizona. Norton accounted for 11 points on six kills and six blocks. Her four solo blocks were a season-high.  Resch, meanwhile, tallied 12 digs, three assists and one ace.

Next week Arizona will travel to face No. 15 Oregon and Oregon State.  The Cats beat both the Beavs and Ducks when the teams played in Tucson.
