TUCSON, Ariz. -

Arizona Volleyball head coach David Rubio was inducted into the Pierce College athletic hall of fame Monday in a ceremony at the Woodland Hills Country Club in Woodland Hills, Calif.

Rubio played volleyball at Granada Hills, Pierce and CSUN before coaching at Chatsworth, Cal State Bakersfield and now has been at Arizona since 1993.

At Arizona, he inherited a program that did not win a single conference match the season prior to his arrival. He has guided the Wildcats to a 340-202 (.627) overall record and guided Arizona to its first ever Pac-10 title in 2000.

“It was a big deal and quite an honor to be a part of that group,” Rubio said. “There was an amazing number of Hall of Famers from Pierce College—some I didn’t even know about and some really big-time people. It was a special night for me.”

Rubio was inducted with the 1984 football team coached by Jim Fenwick, two-sport coach Joe Kelly, baseball player Steve Reed, football players Hal Bledsoe and Jimmy Allen, Olympian Roxanne Demik, track athlete Mary Perry and swimmer Xan Rogers.
