USA Volleyball Release

The Arizona volleyball team had two members selected to the U.S. Women’s National A2 Program for 2009, USA Volleyball announced today.

Juniors Whitney Dosty and Paige Weber were both named to the team that will train and compete in Minneapolis in the 2009 USA Adult Open Championships in May.

“It’s a great honor to have two of our girls on the USA team,” Arizona head coach Dave Rubio said. “I know Whitney and Paige are excited to be on the team and I’m happy for them.”

The Wildcat duo was two of 24 players chosen for the team and Arizona was one of just three schools to have two or more members selected.

The 2009 U.S. Women’s National A2 Team includes four setters, 10 outside/opposite hitters, six middles and four liberos for 19 different collegiate programs.

The team will train May 18-22 before being split into two 12-player rosters to compete in the tournament May 23-26.

Dosty and Weber were selected following a tryout of 160 athletes in February and were two of five athletes and one coach from the Pac-10 selected to participate.

Dosty joins the team having registered 281 kills in 99 sets played coming off an injury that sidelined her entire 2007 season. The Tucson-native also recorded 61 blocks and led the Wildcats in kills in eight different matches.

After just two seasons at Arizona, Weber is seventh all-time for assists in program history with 2,451. She registered 10.58 assists per set last season along with a team leading 0.27 aces per set. The Indianapolis-native played in all 106 sets for Arizona and was the only player on the roster to compete that feat.

The Wildcats are in the middle of their spring schedule, having just completed the 2009 Arizona Spring Tournament. The team travels to Houston, UNLV and Arizona State in the coming months for various spring contests.
