Kingdon Leads USA White To Gold Medal

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Arizona rising sophomore Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied nine points on seven kills and two blocks to help pace the USA White team to the gold medal over USA Gold at the U.S. National Volleyball A2 Tournament on July 4.

USA White, which finished 0-3 in pool play, rallied back in the playoffs to claim the gold medal following its 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 victory over USA Gold at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

In the squad’s four-set semifinal victory over USA Blue, Kingdon led the team with 19 kills on 42 attempts. For the event, Kingdon tallied a team-high 53 points in the five matches, including 46 kills, six blocks and a service ace.

Kingdon was one of just 48 athletes around the country selected to participate in the U.S. Women’s National A2 Team Program. It is the second consecutive year she was chosen to participate in the A2 program.

The 2012 U.S. Women’s National A2 Team program was selected through the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 10-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. A record 207 athletes participated in the tryout.

Kingdon, a 2011 Pac-12 All-Freshman selection, tallied 358 kills on the season and led the squad in kills in 17 of the 30 matches she competed.
