ARE THERE ANY CLINICS BEFORE TRYOUTS?
Traditionally we have a preparatory clinic in February called Future Spirit Weekend. This clinic is not mandatory to tryout. It consists of a campus experience day and a partner stunting clinic the next day. This clinic was held January 27-28, 2023. At this time, no other clinics are scheduled, but please submit the
Cheer Interest Form to receive communication about upcoming clinics.
HOW MANY MEMBERS MAKE THE TEAM EACH YEAR?
The University of Arizona Cheerleading team is a non-competitive, co-ed, partner stunt squad that cheers at Football, Men's and Women's Basketball, and Women's Volleyball games. There is not a set number elected each year; however, we take the best candidates and members vary from 24-30 people (12-15 co-ed couples) from around the country and world. All team positions must be earned each season, and returning team members are also required to tryout every year.
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
Participation requires a significant time commitment. Due to the large number of athletic sporting events and public appearances, our philosophy is that cheerleading comes second only to academics. Practice for the year begins in mid-July/early August. The cheerleaders practice three times per week and condition three times per week. To pursue excellence, dedication and commitment must be a priority!
Through dedication and hard work the University of Arizona Cheerleaders have become an integral part in the strong tradition of excellence exhibited by athletics at The University of Arizona. The season begins the end of July and goes through March of each year, with tryouts taking place in April or early May.
ARE THERE ANY BENEFITS TO BEING ON THE TEAM?
Team members have the opportunity to travel for away and post-season Football, select pre-season and post-season Men's and Women's Basketball, and Women's Volleyball Final Four. Members of the University of Arizona Cheerleading and Mascot program receive uniforms, Nike attire, and equipment. Additionally, the Cheerleaders and Mascots have full use of Arizona Athletics facilities, including the student-athlete Strength & Conditioning Facility, the Ginny L. Clements Athletics Academic Center, Bear Down Kitchen (one free meal a day), and the Kasser Medical Treatment Center. The Cheerleading & Mascot program does not offer academic scholarships at this time.
DO YOU ACCEPT VIDEO TRYOUTS?
No, we do not accept video tryouts.
