TUCSON, Ariz. -Â Head coach
Clancy Shields announced today that Carlos Hassey, a five-star recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net, signed a national letter of intent to play for Arizona next season.Â

"I'm excited to announce the signing of Carlos," said Shields. "I have a lot of confidence in Carlos to make an impact on our team and he has an attitude that will help us elevate our program in the Pac-12. Â He is a great kid, comes from a fantastic family and he knows what it will mean to represent his home state and wear the logo with pride."

Hassey joins the Wildcats as one of the top tennis recruits in the country. The senior at Shadow Ridge High School in Surprise, Ariz.is currently ranked first in the state and 63rd in the nation amongst high school players. Hassey was also a quarterfinalist at the Winter National Championships in Phoenix, Ariz.

What made you choose Arizona?
"I decided to play for coach Shields because of the amazing vision he has for the team and the goals/expectations he has. He is starting something new that's really big and I'm super excited to be a part of it. Arizona has been my home for 11 years and it will be an honor to represent my home state."

What does it mean to you that you're going to be a Wildcat?
"The University of Arizona has always been a dream school of mine. Representing my school as a Wildcat through tennis will be a huge honor for me."

What are you looking forward to the most?
 "I'm looking forward to being a part of a team in which we will all support one another and be the best team we can be.  I am excited for the experiences and journey I will be taking with my team and coaches for the next four years."
